UNDERSTAND THE REPAIR

Common watch and clock repair services

Repair terminology can be confusing. Our service guide explains what different jobs involve and how to read a shop's published service menu.

Published prices, when available, are attributed to the individual shop and checked date. Services without published prices are not assigned estimated prices.

SOURCE-FIRST DIRECTORY

What makes a listing useful?

Every shop record is based on information the repairer publishes on its own website, rather than assumptions from customer reviews or photographs.

Services actually advertised

Listings distinguish watch work from clock work and show only the services the shop explicitly publishes.

Brand information from the shop

Brands serviced are recorded as published. A shop is never assumed to service a particular brand simply because it advertises watch repair.

Mail-in policies stated clearly

Mail-in availability is recorded as yes, no, or unstated. Only an explicit yes qualifies a shop for the mail-in directory.

Published details with dates

Each listing links to its source and shows when it was checked. Published menu prices are displayed without invented estimates.

BEFORE YOU BOOK A REPAIR

Questions worth asking a repair shop

Does the shop handle your particular watch or clock?

A shop may work on watches without servicing every movement or brand. For clocks, the type of movement and the size of the clock can also matter. Confirm the specific item before bringing it in.

Is the repair performed in-house?

Ask whether the shop performs the work directly or sends items to another repair facility, especially for specialized movement work or restoration.

Is a written estimate available?

Published service menus can help you understand which jobs have fixed prices. More involved work may require an inspection and an individual quote. Ask about diagnostic charges and authorization before work begins.

How are shipping and insurance handled?

For mail-in work, confirm the receiving procedure, packaging instructions, shipping responsibility, insurance terms, and return-shipping arrangements. Do not ship an item until the repairer confirms acceptance.
